The Geneva Digital Health Hub (gdhub) has officially launched its newest Digital Health Outpost in Kyrgyzstan, marking a significant expansion of its regional engagement across Central Asia. Following similar initiatives in Nepal and Mali, this Outpost aims to support the growth and integration of digital health efforts at the national and regional levels.

The launch is the result of more than a decade of collaboration between the University of Geneva, the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), and the Initiatives in Medical Education (IME) team in Kyrgyzstan. Over the years, this partnership has focused on enhancing medical education and telemedicine capacity in the country, laying the groundwork for sustained digital health innovation.

Strengthening Digital Health Ecosystems

The Kyrgyzstan Outpost will contribute to strengthening digital health ecosystems by:

  • Documenting and disseminating information on local digital health implementations;

  • Fostering a regional community of practice to facilitate peer exchange and learning;

  • Building capacity and expertise in digital health among health professionals and institutions.

These activities are designed to improve coordination among stakeholders and support scalable, evidence-based digital health interventions across Central Asia.

Ongoing Collaboration

Dr. Gulzat Orozalieva and Dr. Aigul Azimova from the IME team have played a key role in establishing the Outpost and will continue to serve as focal points for activities in the region.

“We’re excited to deepen our work in Central Asia and provide a platform that connects local experiences with global learning,” said the gdhub coordination team. “We look forward to working with policymakers, innovators, and healthcare professionals to accelerate digital health transformation.”

Looking Ahead

The gdhub Outpost in Kyrgyzstan is now open for collaboration. Interested partners, researchers, and implementers are encouraged to connect and explore opportunities to contribute to or benefit from this growing initiative.
